On 24th November an intrepid group of Cliff Laners were invited to attend the University of Suffolk as part of Tendring Technology Colleges University Launch Pad Scheme. With a number of other schools, the children were given a tour of the Campus by University Ambassadors. The children were given an insight into how students live, the facilities available and the types of courses available. Our inquisitive group were constantly questioning the students to ask those in depth questions, such as “What do students do when they are not in classes?”, “Why do students eat so much pasta? Are they Italian?”
Back in the University lecture theatre the children had to complete a budget task as if they were a student, the Cliff Laners knew their stuff and were able to argue their case and buy a bag of food items for under a fiver. The afternoon session included a presentation by a paramedic student who taught the children how to deal with an incident of someone collapsing, they practiced doing CPR (on a dummy!).
After such a fun filled day, the children from Cliff Lane were commended for their excellent behaviour and participation in all aspects of the day. They were a credit to the school.
