Art embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity in our world today. We are surrounded by visual images on a daily basis hence it is vital that children are given the skills to appreciate and make informed judgements about these but also be able to develop into their own style of creative and imaginative artists. We believe that a high-quality art education should engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment invent and create their own works of art. We think that as children progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. It is our aim to engage children on a journey of exploration and discovery to fulfil their potential in producing high quality creative work by allowing children;
- to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
From Nursery through to Year 6 we offer the opportunity for children to develop their own skills, in a safe and non-judgemental environment and to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. We encourage critical thinking and reflection on their own work and on the work of others, whether it be “Pigasso” on the Ipswich Painted Pig Charity Trail or the works of Pablo Picasso, taking inspiration and knowledge from around us as well as some of the great artists, craft makers and designers that have shaped our cultural heritage.
The children were very lucky to have the art teacher from Stone Lodge MLE Academy come in and teach them how to create prints and sculptures! Thank you Stone Lodge. We will continue to work collaboratively with Stone Lodge to ensure the best possible provision for all of our children.
We have teamed up with a local artist and some of the year three children visited the waterfront today, to meet him and talk and practice some art.
